Every color has a meaning:
Purple, color of repentance, contrite and expectation, is used in Lent and Advent. It is also used in Masses and liturgical norms for the dead (before the Second Vatican Council, black was used).
Red is the color of blood and fire, used on Passion (Palm) Sunday, Good Friday, on Pentecost Sunday, on celebrations of the Lord’s passion, on the feasts of the Apostles and Evangelists and on celebrations of Martyr Saints.
White (may be replaced by yellow) evokes the cleanliness, purity, especially God’s glory, is used in Masses during the Easter and Christmas seasons; also on celebrations of the Lord other than of His Passion, of the Blessed Virgin Mary, of the Holy Angels, and of Saints who were not martyrs. White also expresses the resurrection of Christ as well as our resurrection later on. In the heavenly banquet, the chosen wear purely white (see Rm 7:9).
Green is used in Masses of Ordinary Time. Green is the color of hope and life. When seeing the priest advancing in green vestments, this makes us think we are people of great hopes, a caravel being taken by Christ to green pastures of the Promised Land…
Pink is worn twice a year (Third Sunday of Advent and Fourth Sunday of Lent) to invite the faithful to enjoy secret and peaceful joy in the expectation of the coming of the Savior or in preparation for the greeting of the Risen Christ.
